10 Notable Simpsons Episodes
I figured if we’re looking for inspiration, this show, regardless of how much you like it or not, changed comedy forever. Alright a few notes: This was very hard for me to choose just 10, and I only looked at the first 10 seasons. I did my best not to include episodes that I know I’d watched with some of you guys, although I’m sure I failed a bit at that. No particular order. I went through and picked episodes that stuck out to me, either for one funny scene or their idea of comedy if you huwill. I deleted most of the sappy/emotional episdoes I had chosen because I want to stress the way they used “funny” to make the episode great.
Episode 624: Lemon of Troy - About town pride and rival cities, shows how ridiculous people are about small differences. Great appearances from minor characters as well as characters created for this episode only.
Episode 513: Homer and Apu - Apu is a great supporting character, and this is when the writers decided to make him lovable instead of just a stereotypical Kwik-E-Mart owner. Uses cultural differences as well as a great Musical number.
Episode 403: Homer the Heretic - This episode boldly (for 1992 at least) pokes fun at religion but more specifically Church. Homer shines here as he spends many scenes with no other characters. Moral dilemmas as well as great scenes.
Episode 305: Homer Defined - An earlier episode relating to the common theme that Homer is incredibly lucky. Funny stuff as Homer’s job mashes with fame.
Episode 713: Two Bad Neighbors - Very different episode, political satire peppered in to a great story that involves Homer and rivalry with a former president who moves onto his street.
Episode 311: Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwer - Mr. Burns, Smithers and the Nuclear Power plant usually lead to very funny plots. Add in some German humor, as well as great cut scenes.
Episode 703: Homer Sweet Homediddly-Dum-Doodily - I picked this because it best displays why Homer’s long time next door neighbor and sometime friend is a hilarious and key character. Christianity as well as Ned’s peppermint lifestyle are satired wrapped in a nonsensical kind of story that still gets emotional at times.
Episode 412: Marge vs. the Monorail - Great voice acting by the late Phil Hartman adds to the many characters featured in this episode, I feel like almost everyone gets a joke off at some point. A town meeting followed by a musical number made this episode a classic.
Episode 720: Bart on the Road: Bart and his friends go through a hilarious series of events involving a fake ID while Lisa and Homer become closer. The A and B story tie in well together at the end.
Episode 707: King-Size Homer: I’m not usually one for fat jokes, for obvious reasons, but the simspsons take it to a ridiculous level and do a good job of making it easy to make fun of Homer while not making the audience feel bad. A great example of one of Homer’s “Get Rich Quick” schemes in action.
Honorable Mention/Personal Favorite - Episode 317: Homer At The Bat - Great Guest appearances from athletes as well as a hilarious story that ties in numerous characters and again heavy on Homer’s luck and Mr. Burns.
Treehouse of Horror Favorite - Episode 606: Treehouse of Horror V - Great satires and stories with amazing voice acting and an actual feeling of a complete story by all 3 mini episodes. Always kind of fun but weird to see the Simpsons killed, which they usually are at least once in these.

This took way too long so I’ll post again later if I feel like I forgot something. Enjoy.

Slidelock
I started using the pattern-lock feature on my android at the beginning of the summer. Not for security, just because it’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had unlocking my phone.
Anyway, about a week later I went into Boston with a bunch of people to listen to some good drum and bass and just all around rave it up. After a couple of hours I stepped outside to cool off and get some fresh air and reallized my phone was ringing. Didn’t know the number but I was rolling so I answered it anyway. Turns out it was a 911 dispatcher and I buttdialed 911 like 3 times. I rambled on apologizing for like ten minutes and hung up feeling a bit foolish and also unsure if I even made any sense while I was on the phone.
Turns out you can still make emergency calls when the phone is locked. There’s even a button that opens the dialer and automatically dials 911 for you. That’s some serious bullshit. That’s why I have to suffer through every day with the boring old slide lock.

I probably wouldn’t teach that.
